Elon Musk’s Tesla is in India, now set to open its first experience centre on July 15, 2025, at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Mumbai, located near the airport and the Jio World Drive Mall. VIPs and it’s business partners will be given preference during the first week, while the general public will gain access the following week. Deliveries are expected to begin in late August.
Between January and June, they imported nearly $1 million worth of vehicles and gear, including six Model Y SUVs (five Standard Range and one Long Range) and Superchargers from China and the U.S., despite very high import duties of around 70%, which push final prices above $56,000 before taxes.

Tesla was previously invited by the Indian government to set up manufacturing operations in the country, and new EV policies were drafted to support this move. It was expected that Elon Musk would announce a $2–3 billion investment in Tesla’s Indian operations during a planned visit, which was later cancelled.
As of now, the company appears less interested in local manufacturing and prefers to sell imported vehicles in India. Former U.S. President Donald Trump also commented that if Tesla were to establish a plant in India to bypass U.S. tariffs, it would be unfair to the United States. That said, Tesla may still open a plant in India if it aligns with government incentives.
What’s Next?
Tesla’s next showroom is expected to open at Aerocity, Delhi. The company’s entry into India may encourage other international EV brands to follow. If consumer interest continues to grow, this launch could pave the way for a wider all-electric revolution in India.
