Losing the toss and asked to bat first Indian batters started hitting the ball from the first over and specially Smriti Mandhana who has sent her first ball for a boundary. She didn’t stopped there and keep on hitting fours and sixes in every over.
Smriti and Shaifali Verma (20 off 22 balls) stiched a 77 runs opening partnership when the later one holes one to Ecclestone of the bowling of Emily Arlott.
Harleen Deol joined her captain for the 2nd wicket and played a fiery knock of 43 off 23 balls before giving her wicket to Lauren Bell. She hit 7 boundaries in her inning.
Richa Ghosh and Jemimah Rodriguez fell cheaply for 12 and 0 respectively but Smriti held on to the other end and kept on scoring runs and completed her maiden T20I century in style by hitting a boundary. Smriti took 51 balls to reach the milestone.
Smriti Mandhana century made a new record
First Indian woman batter to the list, 5th Overall. By hitting the four on her 51st ball Smriti Mandhana becomes the First Indian woman batter to have the century in all the formats under her name. She becomes the 5th woman batter overall to achieve this feat.
She becomes the second Indian woman batter after her Captain Harmanpreet Kaur to score the century for India in WT20I.
