In a recent speech at the Pakistan Naval Academy in Karachi, Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir accused India of initiating unprovoked attacks and warned that India would face a “swift and befitting response” if any military action is carried out in the future. “Kashmir is our jugular vein and will always remain so. We will never forget it,” he told the Pakistani diaspora abroad.
Asim Munir said that Pakistan is committed to regional peace and stability and that despite India’s “unprovoked aggression”, it has
responded with restraint and maturity, describing Pakistan as a “net regional stabilizer.”
He also blamed India for increasing tensions at a time when Pakistan is nearing success in its fight against terrorism.
Rising Tensions After the Pahalgam Attack
Recently, 26 Indian tourists were killed in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, in an attack carried out by Pakistan-sponsored terrorists. In response, India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, closed the Attari-Wagah border, revoked most Pakistani visas, blocked Pakistani social media channels and films, and, most importantly, launched Operation Sindoor targeting terror camps inside Pakistan. Diplomatic intervention, including a U.S.- brokered ceasefire around May 10, helped ease tensions.
And now, Asim Munir is describing these as unprovoked military attacks, while claiming Pakistan is a “net regional stabilizer.”
